This is Danielle Hobeika, Adam’s friend who helped set up this website. I just thought I’d give you a quick update on the biopsy results, as Adam is driving home to Pittsburgh at the moment so he won’t be around a computer for 6 hours or so.
Adam was in the hospital for over 8 hours today. The initial assessment is that Adam has Hodgkin’s Disease, a type of cancer that attacks the lymphatic system but is 90% curable. However, the hospital called Adam back to tell him that it’s a string of Hodgkin’s that they have never seen before. This obviously isn’t a good sign, but hopefully the hospital at home in Pittsburgh might have seen this type, or a hospital elsewhere.
In any case, Adam said he will be undergoing 6 months to a year of aggressive chemotherapy. He begins chemo next week.
Full results from the biopsy and more info should be available on Monday. I am sure when Adam gets home, he will log in and write more and be able to answer questions, but I just wanted to give updated information as soon as possible.
I did a google search on Hodgkin’s and here is an article describing it if you are interested in reading more about it. (There are various links at the top of the article to the different sections, including causes, treatment, etc).
